Caracas, 18 Abr. AVN.- Argentina's Foreign Minister Hector Timerman said Thursday that the Union of South American Nations (Unasur) will give its full support to the election results in Venezuela, which led President Nicolas Maduro to win.
On Thursday, Unasur will hold a special meeting of heads of state in Lima, Peru, to discuss the situation in Venezuela, where right-wing groups have carried out violent actions and refuse to recognize the legitimate government of Maduro.
Timerman said that Latin American governments will "express their full support to the elections that took place in Venezuela, to the transparency of the process and also express their will to defend democratic processes in the region," EFE reported.
Unasur's meeting takes place one day before the swearing-in of Maduro as president of Venezuela.
Presidents of Argentina, Cristina Fernandez, Brazil's Dilma Rousseff, Uruguay's Jose Mujica, Chile's Sebastian Piñera, Colombia's Juan Manuel Santos, Bolivia's Evo Morales, and the host, Ollanta Humala have already confirmed their participation to the event.
